A SureCal calorifier functions as a heat exchanger, typically utilising:

• Engine Heat: Circulates hot coolant from the engine through an internal coil.
• Diesel or LPG Boilers: Connected to a second internal coil (Twin Coil models).
• Electric Immersion: Features a built-in immersion heater for use when connected to shore power or running a generator.
• Solid Fuel Stoves: Can be integrated with back boilers for “free” heat while the stove is lit.

Copper vs. Stainless Steel Coils

Selecting the correct internal coil material is critical for the longevity of your heating system:

• Copper Coils: The traditional choice, offering excellent heat transfer. However, they must not be used with heating systems that contain aluminium heat exchangers (such as certain modern diesel heaters). The reaction between copper and aluminium causes rapid electrolytic corrosion, usually resulting in the failure of the aluminium component.
• Stainless Steel Coils: The essential choice for systems with aluminium components. These coils prevent the corrosive reaction and are highly resistant to the harsh marine environment.
