The Modern Standard for Life on the Cut
If you’ve been cruising the canals and rivers for a while, you’ll know the names Morco and Cointra well. They’ve been the heart of boat hot water systems for decades. But as regulations move forward and parts for older units get harder to find, the Ferroli Pegaso Eco 6 has stepped up as the new go-to.
It’s a compact, “Low NOx” instant water heater that’s perfect for the unique demands of inland boating. It’s battery-ignited, so there’s no standing pilot light wasting your gas, and it’s built to be a reliable, long-term partner for your galley and shower.
A Direct Replacement for Your Old Favourites
One of the best things about the Pegaso Eco 6 is how “installer-friendly” it is when you’re upgrading. If you currently have one of the following units, the Ferroli is a fantastic direct replacement:
- Morco D61B
- Cointra CPA6
Because the dimensions and connections are so similar, it makes the swap-over much cleaner, saving time during the installation.
⚠️ Important: Where This Heater Belongs
We like to do things right, so we need to be very clear about where this unit can be installed.
The Ferroli Pegaso Eco 6 is designed strictly for Inland Waterway vessels only (think narrowboats, widebeams, and river cruisers).
- Canal & River Boats: Yes, absolutely.
- Coastal or Ocean-Going Vessels: No.
The “Why”: These units are built specifically for the relatively calm conditions of our inland network. Their internal components are not tested to stand up to the heavy physical impact from waves or the highly corrosive nature of a saltwater environment. Crucially, GasSafe standards for boats require that all appliances be installed only in the specific environment for which they were manufactured.
Why We Recommend the Pegaso Eco 6
- BSS Friendly: When installed correctly with the right ventilation, these units are fully compliant with the Boat Safety Scheme.
- Battery Ignition: It uses two standard D-cell batteries to spark the burner only when you turn the tap on. No more worrying about a pilot light blowing out in a draught!
- Cleaner Burn: As a “Low NOx” appliance, it’s much kinder to the environment and runs more efficiently than the older generation of heaters.
- Simple Operation: No complex menus—just two straightforward dials to control your water temperature and gas flow.

Professional Installation & Safety
Installing a gas appliance on a boat isn’t just about connecting pipes; it’s about making sure the “lungs” of the boat work. Because this is an open-flue heater, it pulls oxygen from your cabin.
When we supply and fit these units, we don’t just “gas up” and leave. We calculate your fixed ventilation, check your flue pull, and ensure your CO alarms are positioned correctly. We’re not greedy for your time—we just want to make sure your setup is professional and, above all, safe.
If you already have a unit that needs looking after, we also provide servicing and repairs for the Pegaso range to keep your hot water running smoothly all year round.
