OFTEC certified technician for marine diesel heating and oil-fired appliance servicing

The Hungry Penguin is the original Chilli Penguin stove that started it all. This versatile 5kW multi-fuel appliance is much more than just a heater; it is a compact cooking range designed specifically for those living or travelling off-grid on the UK’s waterways.

Hungry Penguin: The Ultimate Multi-Fuel Cooker for Boats

The Hungry Penguin is a “do-it-all” appliance that keeps you warm, boils your kettle, and cooks your dinner—all from a single fuel load. Its integrated oven box can reach temperatures of up to 300°C, making it perfect for roasting or baking while you heat your cabin. For those who require even more culinary space, it is also available as a “Tall Order” model, which increases the internal oven height to 200mm. With a high efficiency of up to 87% when burning solid fuel, it is an exceptionally economical choice for liveaboards.

Off-Grid Cooking and Customisation

The Hungry Penguin features a dedicated top plate for boiling water and simmering pans. To protect the stove’s surface during heavy use, we recommend the optional stainless steel top plate. Its integrated oven box can reach temperatures of up to 300°C, making it perfect for roasting or baking while you heat your cabin. Like the rest of the Penguin family, the Hungry Penguin is made-to-order and available in several striking colours, including Evergreen and Charred Red. Its Ecodesign-ready status and factory-fitted smoke control kit ensure you can moor and heat your boat responsibly in smoke control areas throughout the UK.

Expert Fitting and Marine Safety

Due to its integrated oven and heat output, the Hungry Penguin requires a precise installation to manage distances to combustibles in a boat’s galley. Our OFTEC-trained engineers specialise in solid fuel boat cooking range installations, ensuring your setup complies with BS 8511:2010 marine safety standards. We provide comprehensive kits including flue systems and the necessary safety certification to ensure your vessel passes its next BSS inspection.
