Fat Penguin

ualified Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) examiner for inland waterway vessel inspections
Gas Safe Registered engineer for marine LPG gas installations and safety certificates
OFTEC certified technician for marine diesel heating and oil-fired appliance servicing

The Fat Penguin is the powerhouse of the Chilli Penguin range, combining a generous 5kW heat output with a significantly larger oven capacity. Designed for those who live aboard or spend extended periods on the water, this stove is as much a high-performance cooking range as it is a highly efficient cabin heater.

Fat Penguin: The High-Capacity Multi-Fuel Range

The Fat Penguin takes the versatility of the Hungry Penguin and expands it for the serious boat cook. It features a wider oven than its smaller counterparts, allowing you to use larger roasting tins and bake for a full crew. Despite its increased cooking capacity, it remains a nominal 5kW stove, ensuring it provides ample warmth for even the largest narrowboat or widebeam cabins. With an impressive efficiency of up to 87%, it is an ideal choice for off-grid living where fuel economy and heat retention are essential.

Performance and Custom Options

Equipped with an advanced air wash system, the Fat Penguin keeps the glass clean for an uninterrupted view of the fire. The large top plate provides plenty of space for multiple pans, and the stove’s design ensures even heat distribution throughout the cabin. We recommend the optional stainless steel top plate to protect the finish during heavy culinary use. As an Ecodesign-ready appliance with a factory-fitted smoke control kit, it meets the most stringent environmental standards, allowing you to use your stove responsibly in smoke control areas. For those who want to match their stove to their boat’s interior, it is available in a variety of custom colours, from classic Penguin Black to Storm Blue.

Specialist Installation and Safety Compliance

Because of its larger footprint and higher cooking temperatures, the Fat Penguin requires careful positioning to ensure safe clearances in a marine environment. Our OFTEC-trained engineers are experts in solid fuel boat cooking range installations, ensuring that every aspect of the setup meets the BS 8511:2010 safety standard. We supply complete kits including marine flue systems, and provide the professional safety certification required for your next BSS inspection.
